The one rule that applies to every device
Get the whole bird in frame. Seriously. A slightly blurry photo that shows the full body â bill, back, tail, both legs â is more identifiable than a sharp close-up of its eye. Identification uses shape, proportion, and plumage patterns. You can't see those if the bird is cropped.
Everything else in these guides is a refinement of that one rule.
